    Manganese plays a role in the activity of many enzymes throughout the body. It’s also widespread in food, and we need very little. A manganese deficiency isn’t anything we need worry about. Its occurrence is so rare that it’s hard to confirm symptoms of deficiency.

    Manganese in large doses can be toxic to the nervous system, but like deficiencies, manganese toxicity is rare, e.g., toxicity in workers who inhaled manganese dust or fumes. Again, however, people should avoid high-dose supplements.
