    Section 4: Worksheet

    1) 2 different RMR/BMR calculations

    a. Write the modified Harris Benedict formula out

    b. Put your data into the formula

    c. Do the calculations and put down your answer with correct units

    d. Repeat this for the Miflin-St. Jeor formula

    e. What is the percent difference between the two?

    2) Two different lean body mass RMR calculations- The Katch McArdle and the Cunningham formulas. In general, the Cunningham will be a high number (overestimate) of your actual RMR. It was developed on muscular athletes. You will first need to calculate your %BF -using the U.S. Navy or another way or if you have had it tested then use that.

    a. Find out your % body fat and multiply it by your total weight to get fat mass.

    b. Do the math to find out your lean body mass. (total- fat mass= LBM)

    c. Plug your LBM numbers into the Katch-McArdle and Cunningham formulas

    d. What are the differences between these two?

    e. Is the average of the first two or the second two formulas higher?

    3) Calculate your TDEE using at least 2 or 3 of the RMR or BMR values you got multiplied by the activity factor. Also calculate the Institute of Medicine value. Compare these

    4) Calculate your RMR using the MET units-

    a. two different formulas given- body weight in

    i. kgs * 24

    ii. (3.5 * kgs *24 *60)/200

    5) A high intensity activity- make sure you only put it for the duration you do it- like 20 min.

    6) A low intensity activity like watching TV/ computer games for as long as you do it.
