    Part B- Sit and Reach

    The Seated sit and reach test will measure the vertebral, hip and hamstring flexibility. The person should be seated in a standard folding chair. The gluteal fold should be on the edge of the chair and the foot should be dorsiflexed 90 degrees with the heel on the ground. The person should have the middle fingers overlapped and they reach forward as far as possible. Like the scratch test, if the person can stretch all the way to where the tip of the shoe is touched by the tip of the middle finger then it is a zero. If they reach past the toes it is positive and not reaching the toe is negative.

    The sitting sit and reach will require some tape, like masking tape and a yardstick. The person should be warmed up with a couple toe touches and a loose back. The shoes need to be off and heals will line up with the edge of the tape. The legs should be flat on the ground with no knee bend and the feet can be 10-14 inches apart, depending on their height. The person should breathe out and slowly extend forward with the head down, and the hands overlapped. The edge of the tape should be on the 15-inch mark on the yard stick to recreate the standardized sit and reach box.
