    • 1.8.1: Basic Life Processes and Functions
Basic life processes are the essential functions that allow the human body to survive, including maintaining boundaries, metabolism, responsiveness, movement, and development, growth, and reproduction. Together, these processes reflect how cells and organ systems use energy and coordination to maintain internal stability and life.
    • 1.8.2: Survival Needs
Human survival depends on a small set of essential needs: adequate oxygen, food, water, a stable body temperature, and appropriate atmospheric pressure to support cellular metabolism and gas exchange. When any of these requirements fall outside normal ranges, homeostasis fails, organ function declines, and survival is quickly threatened.
