- Relate the information provided by DRI values, dietary guidelines, and food labels to the criteria that contribute to a healthy diet (adequate, balance, Calorie control, moderation, variety).
- Compare and contrast the purpose of the DRI, EAR, RDA, AI, UL and AMDR in planning healthy meals.

- Describe the role of the FDA and the USDA in regulating nutrient labels and claims.

In this chapter, you will learn about the tools and guidelines for achieving a healthy diet. There are several dietary reference intake values that can be used to plan and assess the nutrient intake for a person given their age, weight, gender and activity level. The intake values help define dietary guidelines and recommendations to improve health for individual needs. Finally, you will learn about food labels and nutrient fact panels to help you select healthy foods.
