In the U.S., all drugs available for prescription are listed in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the National Formulary (NF, uspnf.com). A formulary is a list of available drugs and is used by organizations and institutions to indicate which drugs are available. Insurance companies use a formulary for the prescription drugs that are covered by their plans. Hospitals and clinics use a formulary to list the drugs that are on hand for administration (U.S. Food and Drug Administration, 2017).
