Drugs are used to prevent, treat, diagnose, and cure diseases. The study of how drugs are used to treat disease is pharmacotherapeutics. Indication is the reason a drug is used, and efficacy is when a drug does what it is intended to do. Toxicology is the study of the poisonous effects of drugs.
