    Margaret (Peg) Burnette is Associate Professor Emerita of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Peg spent her entire career supporting medical education, first at the UIC College of Medicine and then at the University of Illinois at Urbana. Since 2012, Peg served as Medical and Biomedicine Librarian at the University of Illinois where she helped to build library services and resources for the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, which welcomed its first class in 2015. As a faculty member of the new medical school, Peg continued to build programming and provide instruction and research support for faculty and students until her retirement in October 2123. Peg’s research sits as the intersection of Knowledge Management, Librarianship, and Medicine, focusing on tacit knowledge (TC) and how TC impacts knowledge sharing and its influence on the evidence base. Peg continues to be engaged with Carle Illinois and the University Library in retirement.

    Samar Hegazy
    MD, Ph.D., MEHP

    Samar Hegazy is an MD and PhD pathologist. She completed her MD degree and Anatomical Pathology Residency training at Zagazig University, Egypt, and her PhD in Molecular Pathology (Laboratory Medicine and Pathology) from the University of Alberta, Canada. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship in clinical cancer research to identify novel prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers for prostate cancer at the University of Calgary and Prostate Cancer Center, Canada. Dr. Hegazy completed and was conferred a Master of Education in Health Professions (MEHP) with leadership specialization from the Johns Hopkins School of Education. She is an Assistant Professor at Carle Illinois College of Medicine (CI MED)-UIUC, the Pathology and Histology Discipline Lead, the Lifespan Health Thread co-director, the respiratory course co-director, the director of the Literature Reviews in pathology elective course, and the chair of the curriculum evaluation subcommittee. Dr. Hegazy is the faculty advisor of the student pathology and Academic Medicine interest groups. Dr. Hegazy is mentoring several medical students who are interested in academic pathology as a career. Dr. Hegazy’s medical education research focuses on Innovative curricular developments and instructional methods (3D printed models, AI, VR, open educational resources, and simulation), integration of SDOH in pathology/medical education, and Diversity Education in Pathology.

    Judith Thorn
    Ph.D.

    Dr. Judith Thorn is a Professor of Biology at Knox College. Her main research interests include early embryo development and the role of canines in ancient Greece. Inspired by her experience as a first-generation college student, Judy works with students, staff and faculty to remove barriers and promote access and inclusivity to ensure that all students can achieve their goals.     Wessam Ibrahim
    MD, Ph.D, MEHP

    Wessam Ibrahim is a Teaching Assistant Professor and serves as the Anatomy & Embryology Discipline Lead at Carle Illinois College of Medicine, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She brings a robust background in medical education, having earned her Medical degree, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Basic Sciences, Anatomy, and Embryology from Ain-Shams University Faculty of Medicine, Cairo, Egypt. Further enhancing her expertise in educational leadership, she completed a Master of Education in Health Professions (MEHP) at the Johns Hopkins School of Education.

    Prior to joining Carle Illinois, Dr. Ibrahim was a distinguished faculty member at Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine, where she taught Anatomy and Embryology. Her commitment to excellence in teaching was recognized with the “Educator of the Year Award” on three occasions.

    Dr. Ibrahim is passionate about advancing anatomy and embryology education to prepare future generations of physician innovators for the evolving challenges of healthcare.

    Michael Dauzvardis
    Ph.D

    Michael Dauzvardis is an Assistant Professor of Anatomy and is currently retired from the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. He taught anatomy for over 30 years, winning the coveted "Teacher of the Year Award" six times. His doctoral thesis focused on spinal cord injury. He currently passes his time gardening, hiking, biking, and reflecting upon the joy that teaching medical students brought him.

    Imanni Sheppard
    Ph.D.

     

    Dr. Sheppard is an experienced Director of Medical Education with a demonstrated history of developing health equity, diversity & inclusion curricula, medical humanities curricula, medical anthropology curricula, conducting mixed-methodology research and community based participatory research. Dr. Sheppard is also a strong medical humanities and community engagement professional with a PhD in Medical Humanities from the University of Texas Medical Branch--making her the first African American in the United States to graduate with a PhD in that field. Dr. Sheppard's dissertation was entitled "The Parallax of Personalized Medicine: A Critical, Socio-medical Analysis of the Trajectory of Pharmacogenomics and Genome Wide Association Studies." She also holds a MA in Medical Anthropology from the University of Houston and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi honors society and Golden Key honors society.

    3D Printing Coordinator

    Jose Beltran is a medical student at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine (Class of 2026). He received a degree in Biomedical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in 2013, a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences in 2021, and a Master's in Public Health (Urban Health Justice) in 2022 from Charles R. Drew University of Health and Science. Before returning to school, he had over three years of experience as a 3D printing technician and engineer for a DLP-based 3D printing company. In 2024, he was selected as a Scholar for the Emerging Leaders Institute through the American Academy of Family Physicians. His passions are in urban and community health with an emphasis on Immigrant and Refugee Health.

    Emily Forbes, M.Ed. is a higher education professional with skills in accessible instructional design, faculty development, and data analysis. She is serving as a Senior Course Manager with the Gies College of Business and is studying for her Ph.D. in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership, Global Studies in Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.     Ann Fredericksen

    Accessibility Consultant

    Ann Fredricksen has her BA in Physics from Carthage College and has her MS/LIS degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She has been working for Disability Resources and Educational Services in the Accessible Media Services Office since 2008. She now serves as the Coordinator of Accessible Media Services, which provides accessible learning material for courses being taught within the University’s system. In 2020 she was Awarded the Lorine Y. Cowan Award for Excellence in Access and Accommodations from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Ann has been focusing her career on media accessibility which includes accessible print material, closed captioning, as well as audio description.

    Dr. Jennings is a board certified OB/Gyn employed as an OB Hospitalist at Carle Foundation Hospital. She completed her medical school and residency training at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is an Assistant Professor at Carle-Illinois College of Medicine and is the current course director for the Women’s Health and Obstetrics course for second year medical students.

    Mike Joseph has served as a librarian at Knox College since 2018. He earned his master's degree in Library and Information Science from Dominican University. He began this project with very little understanding of 3D printing but excitedly took on the challenges to integrate a 3D project into the classroom.

    Dr. Sol Roberts-Lieb is an accomplished faculty development leader and serves as the Faculty Director of the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning at the University of Maryland, Baltimore as well as an assistant professor in the Health Professions Education Program in the School for Graduate Studies.

    Prior to UMB, Sol served as the Director of Faculty Development at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. Additionally, he held the position of associate director for pedagogy strategy at the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning at the University of Illinois.

    Sol's educational background includes a doctorate in educational policy and organizational leadership from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a specialization in differentiated instruction and organizational change, a master's in technology impact and assessment from the University of Illinois at Springfield with a concentration in liberal and integrative studies, and a bachelor's in chemistry from Illinois College.

    Janet Sinn-Hanlon
    MAMS

    3D Model Designer

    Janet Sinn-Hanlon, MAMS, earned a master’s degree in Biomedical Visualization from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her many years of experience in data visualization and 3D modeling and animation for scientific research journals and educational applications has laid the foundation for her role as Lead Modeler for the project. In this role, Janet created the original polygonal meshes for the normal human female anatomy and a number of pathology models, and optimized them for 3D printing. Janet currently works for iLearning@VetMed where she works with a team of educators, multimedia and CG artists, and programmers to develop online courses and AR/VR applications to teach veterinary surgery. She also works with Veterinary Clinical Medine to extract 3D models from imaging data sets, in order to create 3D prints for pre-surgical planning and research purposes.
