    14.3 Motor Responses

    • Describe the process of initiating a movement including the parts of the brain involved.
    • What are the roles of the primary and secondary motor cortices?
    • Distinguish the roles of the following motor planning areas:
      • Premotor cortex
      • Supplemental motor area
      • Broca’s Area
    • Describe the pathways that motor signals take from the primary motor cortex.
    • Describe the differences between appendicular and axial control
    • What distinguishes the extrapyramidal system? What types of signals pass through it? What would happen if something went wrong with it?
    • Describe the function of the rubrospinal tract.
    • Describe the importance of the cerebellum in coordinating motor function. What would happen if someone had their cerebellum damaged?
    • What makes a particular response a reflex?
    • Describe the arc taken by each of the following reflexes:
      • Withdrawal
      • Stretch
      • Corneal
