“Don’t tell the doctor what I just told you!”
Reflection and Application
Ethical reasoning is at the heart of interpreting professionalism. As you grow in experience, you’ll learn that dilemmas rarely present clear “yes or no” answers. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s awareness. Take time to pause, analyze, and choose the path that preserves trust, safety, and communication. When in doubt, return to the core values: confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality, and respect. They will guide you toward ethical, humane, and culturally responsive interpreting.
