    Safety first! During the first lab class meeting, instructors will go through lab safety procedures, show the location of exits, safety showers, eye wash stations, first aid boxes, and fire extinguisher, as well as discuss extra precautions relative to Covid-19.

    Supplies and equipment:

    • Please report all malfunctioning equipment, broken glass, or used supplies to the instructor; instructors will convey this information to the lab technician on your campus and the department chair. This allows us to fix and/or replace items in a timely manner. reported. For broken items or equipment to be repaired, please leave a note and/or email our lab technicians to let them now. Alert lab staff of any chemicals or supplies that are out or running low. If you use something up, please replace the item, if it is readily available. Most importantly, please let us know if there are any lab needs.
    • Each lab will have a running supply list that you may add to

    Clean up and organization:

    • Students are responsible for cleaning up after themselves, washing all dishes (unless otherwise directed), wiping down tables with 10% bleach solution all the time, putting away microscopes properly after they’ve been cleaned, and returning all supplies to the designated area.

    • Please be sure that the lab is left clean and ready for the next class.

    • Students should wipe down lab tables with 10% bleach solution at the end of each lab

    • Please wash all glassware, and then leave it on the drying rack

    • Dissection equipment should be washed AND dried and returned to its home

    • Return all supplies used during the lab to their proper locations, as directed by your instructor

    • All waste should be placed in the appropriate containers in the designated waste area

    • Please help us make sure the labs are clean, organized, and ready to go for the next group of students

      Equipment handling:

    • Common equipment, such as microscopes, scales, hot plates and pH meter need to be handled properly and left clean and in good working order. If you are in doubt about instructions for use, please ask the instructor to clarify

    • Make sure there is nothing left in the sinks, including dirty glassware, paper or “pig/sheep/cow parts”

    • Instructors will place slides on trays or in designated areas for students. Students should not take slides from slide boxes. This arrangement helps our lab techs keep the hundreds of slides organized properly!
