Instructors will show you the location and proper use of exits, safety showers, eye wash stations, first aid boxes, and fire extinguisher.

    1. Additional precautions regarding Covid-19:

    • Students are required to wear masks while in the lab and in most parts of our campuses. Refusal to wear a mask will result in the student leaving the lab and earning zero credit for the day’s activities and assignments.
    • Students should sanitize models, metal parts of microscopes, and lab benches after use.
    1. Each lab should have additional safety directions posted above the phone

    2. The eye wash should be used continuously for at least 15 minutes and the campus safety officer and department chair should be notified immediately

    3. Report incidents or injuries to your instructor immediately. Instructors should report these through the online incident reporting tracker and to the department chair as soon as possible.

    4. Be attentive to others around to prevent accidents.

    5. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including goggles, gloves, and gowns, as directed by your instructor

    6. NO food or beverages are allowed in the lab at any time. Do not eat or drink in anything in the labs at any time.

    7. No visitors, including children, are permitted in the lab at any time.

    8. Closed-toe footwear must be worn in lab. Instructors may require you to leave if you are in violation of this policy. This means you will lose points for the missed lab session.

    9. Hair must be tied back for wet labs or when working with specimens.

    10. Wash hands any time after working with specimens during lab and before leaving the lab.

    11. Never assume that surfaces or equipment in the lab are clean.

    12. Do not use any unlabeled materials.

    13. As a means of contamination control, clean your work station and any other areas you have used with the 10% bleach solution and paper towels before leaving the lab.

    14. Do not use equipment until you have been instructed.

    15. Do not handle broken glass with your hands. Use a broom and dust pan to sweep it up. Tell your instructor if the glass is contaminated.

    16. Follow disposal guidelines on the next page
