- 12.1: Introduction to the Peripheral Nervous System
- In this chapter, you will look at the structures that make the peripheral nervous system and correlate them with their functions. The peripheral nervous system includes the cranial and spinal nerves, as well as the ganglia
- 12.2: PNS - Nerves and Ganglia
- Within the Peripheral Nervous System, the white matter is composed of axons transmitting signals that are bundled into structures called nerves. The grey matter is consists primarily of nuclei and satellite cells contained within structures called ganglia. In this section we will look at the structure of the nerves and ganglia that we will name and discuss in later sections.
- 12.3: Cranial Nerves
- The Peripheral Nervous System include nerves and ganglia. Nerves are organized into structures by layers of connective tissue that cover them. The epineurium covers the nerve, the perineurium covers the fascicles and the endoneurium covers the individual axon. Cranial nerves originate from the brain and carry sensory, motor or mixed information. There are twelve pairs of cranial nerves. Cranial nerve ganglia can be part of the somatic sensory NS or autonomic NS.
- 12.4: Spinal Nerves and Their Branches
- Spinal nerves originate from the spinal cord, carry both sensory and motor information to both somatic and visceral organs. Their connections to the skin to form a map of dermatomes.

- 12.6: Practice Practical
- Practical examinations in anatomy ask you to identify structures that you have viewed in the laboratory. For each question you will see an image of a slide, model, specimen, etc. and will be asked to give the name or another piece of information about indicated item(s).
